On Tuesday 12 June, was held at the headquarters of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona the environmental seminar called “Artificial Recharge of the Llobregat aquifer: evaluation of the improvements implemented in the recharge ponds of Sant Vicenç dels Horts within the LIFE+ ENSAT project”.
The event was chaired by Carles Conill, director of AMB’s Environmental Area, and all the partners of the project contributed as speakers: CETaqua, ACA, CSIC-IDAEA, CUADLL, UPC and AMB (also organizing the event).
Llobregat aquifer water is the main water reservoir for the supply of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, and it was highlighted the importance of preserving its good qualitative and quantitative state. With the ultimate goal of maintaining good conservation of this aquifer, LIFE+ ENSAT project has been working in the area of the recharge system in Sant Vicenç dels Horts.
In the studies carried out so far it has been assessed the ability of improving water quality with the placement of the reactive layer in the base of the infiltration pond, which promotes the degradation of organic micropollutants. In some cases the degradation may represent reductions in the concentrations of some of these micropollutants between 50 and 75%.
